Dominio Basconcillos Finca de Altura

Characteristics of the vintage:

Rainy winter with low temperatures, followed by more spring rains, promoted early sprouting and vegetative development with good water reserves. Warm summer with peaks of 38-40ºC and cool nights favored a slow polyphenolic maturation. Harvest in late september early october with mild temperatures for optimal harvesting and a perfect sanitary condition of the grapes.

Elaboration:

We make a careful selection of the grapes in the vineyard and transport to the winery in small boxes of 12 kilos to maintain maximum respect for the quality of the fruit. Once in the winery, a final selection on the sorting table will ensure the optimal conditions of health and maturity with the subsequent cold pre-fermentation maceration at 5ºC for 5 days. All this to achieve a greater polyphenolic extraction by means of a gentle daily pumping over. The vineyard's own yeasts carry out alcoholic fermentation spontaneously, and with controlled temperatures between 20-26ºC. Finca de Altura performs malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at 20-22ºC and is aged in French oak barrels under controlled conditions of humidity and temperature (75% and 12ºC respectively).

Tasting Notes:

Appearance: Deep intense ruby color, purple to the rim. Bright and shiny.

Nose:  Fine and elegant with a marked fruity character of fresh summer berries mingled with the subtle hint of spice and toast in the background.

Palate: Very pleasant spicy cherry with silky texture and mineral notes, typical of this chalky and stony soils at high altitude. Quite balanced acidity finely wrapped with silky and polished tannins and subtle hints of toast, spices and nuts that fill the palate with pleasant sensations.

It is recommended to serve at a temperature between 16 and 18ºC.

Viña Magna Reserva

Characteristics of the vintage:

Abundant rainfall during winter and spring, with historical record in recent years. This, allowed the soil's water reserves to be optimal for the vineyard throughout the hot and dry summer. A final ripening without rain and with marked thermal fluctuations between day and night, allowed a harvest of excellent quality. All this defined a wine with a very marked fruit potential, with black fruits and a fine and elegant mid palate.

Elaboration:

Manual harvest in boxes of 12 kilos. Grapes selected from the oldest vineyards with very low yields. Double selection of bunches, in the field and upon reception with sorting table. Elaboration by gravity to preserve to the maximum all its organoleptic properties. Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation (without commercial yeasts) and with controlled temperatures. Malolactic fermentation and aging for 24 months in new French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes:

Appearance: Deep intense garnet almost pitch black colored with a brighter cherry rim.

Nose: Pronounced nose, bold and concentrated. It opens with fragrant blueberry, black cherry with a hint of spicy, herbal and mineral notes in the background.

Palate: Richly oaked, well-balanced cuvée from an excellent vintage. A core of fresh acidity and flavours of cassis, black cherry and sweet vanilla finelly wrapped in polished and ripe tannins. Great potential for ageing over the next 10 years.

It is recommended to uncork 30 minutes before serving at a temperature between 15 and 18ºC.

Pairing:
